The Mechanical Subsystems Directorate (MSD) is searching for a Harness & Interconnect (H&I) design engineer with experience and/or an interest in the aerospace cabling/wiring field. In this position, the candidate will be responsible for developing various types of harnesses (round wire and/or flex circuits) which will interconnect various subsystems within missiles. Duties associated could include: system requirements development, design, prototyping, manufacturing, integration and test for multiple missile programs. Job Responsibilities: The candidate should have an understanding of the aerospace industry with working knowledge of all related engineering disciplines with special focus on systems, electrical and mechanical. On new programs, the candidate will be responsible for the identifying and deriving systems requirements, developing mechanical outline (size, shape, routing) and construction details, connector selection and specification, mechanical and assembly drawings, oversee electrical layout, perform first order electrical analysis and ownership of final technical data package. They will be responsible for meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for finished product. The candidate will work with direction or supervision while exercising some latitude in determining the technical objectives of the assignment. The position will require frequent interaction with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations, and physical locations. Note: This position can be Salary Grade G06 (Mechanical Engineer I) or Salary Grade G07 (Mechanical Engineer II) based upon the applicant's qualifications and experience. Required Experience and Skills: A minimum of 18 months of professional experience (this does not include internships). This is a position for experienced professionals. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance Desired Experience and Skills: Two (2) years of experience in the design and manufacturing of flex, rigid flex or round wire harnesses for military and aerospace applications Working knowledge of RMS processes and procedures Familiarity with the Creo (Pro/Engineer) CAD modeling tool and drawing standards Familiarity with the design and manufacturing processes of harness and interconnects A knowledge of military specifications such as Mil-PRF-31032, IPC-6013, J-STD-001, IPC-2221, IPC- 2223 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Strong technical background with high technical aptitude Strong leadership skills and project management skills Strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills when working with team members and customers Self-starter, ability to work independently Required Education (Including Major): Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum with a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0 This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.
